GoFundMe Launched for Injured Worker at Darlington Nuclear Site

BOWMANVILLE, ONT. — A GoFundMe campaign has been created in support of a worker seriously injured at the Darlington New Nuclear Project on April 9.

The injured worker, identified only as Trevor, is a LIUNA 183 heavy civil worker who is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The campaign page describes him as being “in the fight of his life.”

Although the exact nature of the incident remains unclear, it is believed that Trevor was injured due to an incident involving a crane load.

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has confirmed that a requirement has been issued to Aecon Group Inc., the contractor involved. However, as the investigation is ongoing, the ministry declined to share additional details at this time.

The Darlington New Nuclear Project, spearheaded by Ontario Power Generation, is Canada’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) initiative. It involves the development of up to four new nuclear reactors at the existing Darlington site. According to a recent project update, site grading for Unit One has been completed.
