Eastern Ontario is seeing major progress in seniors’ care as Ottawa celebrates the opening of a new facility, while Peterborough, Prescott, and Lancaster have started construction on their own long-term care projects.
Ottawa Celebrates Extendicare Crossing Bridge
The Extendicare Crossing Bridge long-term care home is officially complete in Ottawa, adding 256 upgraded care beds to the community.
Key Features of the New Ottawa Facility
The building has eight Resident Home Areas (RHAs) designed to create smaller, more intimate living spaces for up to 32 residents each. One RHA is specially dedicated to individuals needing memory care support.
peopleCare Peterborough Under Construction
Work is underway on peopleCare Peterborough, a 224-bed long-term care home being built as part of Trent University’s Seniors Village.
Seniors Village at Trent University
This unique project will integrate health care and education. The home is expected to open its doors in 2027.
Amenities for Future Residents in Peterborough
The Peterborough facility will feature:
- Therapy and quiet rooms
- A secure landscaped courtyard
- A bistro and multipurpose spiritual room
- Teaching and research spaces for university students and faculty
New Homes Planned for Prescott and Lancaster
In addition to Ottawa and Peterborough, Arch is leading redevelopment projects in Prescott and Lancaster. Each will provide 128 total beds, combining new and redeveloped spaces.

The Prescott project redevelops the existing Wellington House Nursing Home into a four-storey residence with:
- Lounges and activity spaces
- Therapy rooms
- A salon and worship area
Redevelopment of Lancaster Long Term Care Residence
The Lancaster project redevelops the existing Lancaster Long Term Care Residence into a three-storey home with:
- Four RHAs
- Landscaped courtyards
- Spacious dining areas with natural light
- Outdoor terraces for residents
