Construction Begins on Massive IKEA Distribution Centre in Hamilton

Hamilton, Ontario — Construction has officially begun on the new IKEA Hamilton Customer Distribution Centre (CDC) and Collection Point, part of a major $400 million investment by IKEA Canada. The facility, located at 212 Glover Rd, is set to become one of the province’s largest and most sustainable industrial buildings.

The project will span 483,285 square feet and is designed to achieve net-zero carbon national certification, LEED Gold certification, and will aim to generate net-positive energy annually. It will also support IKEA’s goal of contributing to zero-emission transportation.

In addition to serving as a distribution hub, the CDC will feature a collection point, offering customers from the Greater Hamilton Area a convenient location to pick up their online orders. However, no on-site product or food sales will be available for immediate purchase.

Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath praised the project, highlighting its environmental and economic significance:

“I would like to thank IKEA for their commitment to Hamilton and its residents. When this net-zero distribution facility is completed, it will be built to some of the Canada Green Building Council’s highest environmental standards. This site will further reduce the distance that Hamiltonians need to travel to access goods from IKEA.”

The facility is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, including positions in warehousing, delivery, kitchen installation, design services, B2B operations, and third-party assembly services through platforms like Task Rabbit.

The IKEA Hamilton CDC and Collection Point is projected to open in summer 2027.
